Cistanche is a hardy, shrub-like plant native to the desert regions of Mongolia and northern China. It is shaped somewhat like a cross between a pine cone and a pineapple, with thick, fleshy stems and large, yellow flowers that grow smaller as the plant’s apex.[6] Cistanche is harvested before or just as spring is emerging. It is removed from the inflorescences, (An inflorescence is a group or cluster of flowers arranged on a stem that is composed of a main branch or a complicated arrangement of branches.
