About Olive Leaf
Orally, olive leaf is used for treatment of viral, bacterial, and protozoal conditions including influenza, the common cold, meningitis, Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV), encephalitis, herpes, shingles, HIV/ARC/AIDS, chronic fatigue, and hepatitis B. Olive leaf is also used for pneumonia, tuberculosis (TB), gonorrhea, malaria, dengue, severe diarrhea, blood poisoning, and infections including dental, ear, urinary tract, and surgical infections. Other uses include hypertension, diabetes, allergic rhinitis, improving renal and digestive function, and as a diuretic and antipyretic.
Olive leaf is most often sold as capsules or liquid extracts. Extracts are concentrated liquid preparations usually made by soaking chopped or mashed plant parts in a liquid such as alcohol, and then straining out the solid parts.1 Olive leaf is present in the solid component, acting as an antimicrobial agent. The olive leaf may comprise from about 2 to about 10 weight percent of the solid component.2 Olive Leaf is effective in fighting viruses of all kinds. It appears to be a true antiviral compound with the ability to inhibit the critical amino acid production needed for the growth of viruses; and in extensive testing, it deactivated or destroyed every virus (and fungus, yeast and protozoan) against which it was used.3
Orally, water extracts of olive fruit pulp are used for rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Topically, olive oil is used for softening earwax, ringing ears (tinnitus), pain in the ears, lice, wound dressing, treating minor burns and psoriasis, preventing and treating stretch marks due to pregnancy, and for protecting the skin from ultraviolet (UV) damage after sun exposure. In foods, olive oil is used as a cooking and salad oil.
