Gou Teng, which has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to support a healthy nervous system and promote relaxation.

What is Gou Teng?
Gou Teng, also known as Uncaria rhynchophylla or Cat's Claw, is a woody vine native to China and Southeast Asia. It has been used in TCM for thousands of years to promote a healthy nervous system and alleviate various health conditions, such as high blood pressure, headaches, and anxiety.  Do not confuse Uncaria tomentosa which is also called cat's claw.   There are completely different plants.

Gou Teng contains numerous active compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenes, that have been shown to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Some of the most important compounds found in Gou Teng include rhynchophylline, isorhynchophylline, and corynoxeine.

Neuroprotective Properties

Research has shown that Gou Teng has neuroprotective properties, meaning it can help protect and support the health of the nervous system.
Studies have suggested that Gou Teng can help enhance cognitive function and improve memory. It may also have potential benefits for neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases.
The active compounds in Gou Teng, such as rhynchophylline and isorhynchophylline, have been found to have
antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, which can help protect neurons from damage and improve brain function.

Gou Teng may also help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation, making it a beneficial herb for those
dealing with stress and mental health issues.
Research has shown that Gou Teng can help reduce
inflammation and oxidative stress in the brain, which are two common underlying factors in many neurological disorders.

Promotes relaxation: Gou Teng has a calming effect on the body and can help alleviate symptoms of anxiety, stress, and insomnia.
It works by increasing the production of GABA, a neurotransmitter that promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety.

Lowers blood pressure: Gou Teng has been shown to have a hypotensive effect, meaning it can help lower blood pressure levels
in people with hypertension. This effect is thought to be due to the presence of alkaloids in Gou Teng that can dilate blood vessels and increase blood flow.

Anti-inflammatory properties: Gou Teng contains numerous compounds that have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce inflammation
throughout the body. This makes it a potentially useful supplement for people with inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

Dosage and Safety:
Gou Teng is generally considered safe when taken in appropriate doses. The recommended dosage of Gou Teng extract is usually around 500-1000 mg
per day, divided into two or three doses. It is important to note that Gou Teng may interact with certain medications, such as blood
thinners and antihypertensive drugs. Therefore, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before taking Gou Teng if you are currently taking any medications.

This arrived early and looks exactly as expected based on the photos and description. The pieces are quite hard though did chop up into smaller bits in my Ninja blender, enough to start making a tincture. If you want to grind it to a powder you would need better equipment for the job, a coffee grinder would likely work. I am happy with this purchase.
