Prostate Disorders
What is the prostate gland?
The prostate is a gland located between the bladder and the penis. It secretes a fluid that helps to protect sperm.
What are some of the problems that the prostate can have?
Sometimes, something goes wrong with the prostate. Some of the problems that might occur include:
• Enlarged Prostate: Also called benign prostatic hypertrophy, this is an enlargement of the prostate causing it to exert pressure on the urethra. Resulting symptoms include interruption of urinary flow, a feeling of incomplete evacuation after urinating, a feeling of urgency before urinating, pain, burning, and even impotence.
• Prostatitis: This is an inflammation of the prostate sometimes caused by infection.
• Prostate Cancer: This is the most common form of cancer in men. Thankfully, it is not typically lethal and can usually be treated successfully.
