Niu Bang Gen is the dried root of the burdock tree.  Originally from Northern Asia and Europe, burdock root is commonly eaten as a root vegetable in China and Japan.  Niu Bang Gen has a long history of medicinal uses for a variety of health concerns.  Niu Bang Gen contains a dietary fiber called, inulin that benefits healthy digestion and is rich in the antioxidants phenolic acids, quercetins, and luteolin.  These powerful antioxidants help to protect the body’s cells from free radicals which may cause a variety of health issues.  The active compounds in Niu Bang Gen have been found to have a natural detoxifying effect on the blood.  Research has shown that the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial compounds in Niu Bang Gen may aid with skin concerns.  One interesting study found it may even have an aphrodisiac effect.
