How to Properly Store Herbs
Posted by 1st Chinese Herbs on Jun 9th 2016
Once you receive your premium herbs from 1st Chinese Herbs, it is important that you know how to properly store herbs in order to maintain their freshness. Storing your herbs properly can vastly improve their sustained potency over time and their shelf-life. If at all possible, we recommend storing them in glass jars.
Here are some herb-storing tips:
- Use an air-tight glass storage jar instead of a plastic storage container.
- Put the herbs in a dark cupboard away from direct sunlight.
- Do not put herbs in the fridge as condensation may occur.
- Make sure you label your storage jar with the date, ingredients, and what you use the herb for. So many herbs look the same in cut form so be sure to use the full name, when you purchase the herb, and how you plan to use the herb (ie. tea, decoction, topical, capsules).
- Do not store the herbs over the stove or the dishwasher due to the heat and steam.
- Do not store herbs in thin, plastic bags.
