Ugh! Allergy Season!
Posted by 1st Chinese Herbs on May 10th 2016
Spring! It's that wonderful time of year again! The birds are tweeting, flowers are blooming, leaves are popping and everything is greening up. You can finally start getting back outside after the cold drab winter months. Unfortunately for all of us with seasonal allergies, spring also brings a host of unpleasant allergy symptoms.
It's the itchy, drippy, never being with out a tissue season. I find tissues everywhere, in my back pocket, stuffed in my shirt sleeve, and even jammed in my eye glass holder. Pollen from flowers, grass and trees along with molds spores and ragweed can reek havoc on our sinuses. Every morning on the news I listen to the pollen count numbers to help me prepare for my day. It gives me an idea of what lies ahead. The good thing is spring allergies usually only last a few weeks.
Seasonal allergy (Allergic rhinitis) suffers can endure:
- Red, watery eyes
- Itchy eyes
- Puffy eyes
- Congestion
- Loss of smell
- Red, runny nose
- Post-nasal drip
- Sneezing
- Stuffy nose
- Mouth breathing
- Wheezing
- Coughing
- Fatigue
- Headaches
- Itchy skin
- Phlegm
- Sore throat
With all these possible symptoms, spring can be a miserable time of year. Staying away for what irritates your sinuses can help. However, if you don't want to stay indoors, what can you do? That's when I look for ways to ease my suffering.
Possible options include saline nasal spray to help cleanse the nasal passages of irritants, over the counter allergy medications and decongestants and herbal remedies.Personally, I have difficulty taking over the counter allergy medications, they tend to make me sleepy, spacey or dry out my sinuses so much that they hurt. I do not endure the side effects I get with over the counter products.
My suggestion would be to consult your doctor or herbalist for suggestions on products you should try. Once you find the combination that works best for you, you can smell the roses and enjoy it!
