Can you guess why the UPS driver is shivering? Yes, it is my dashing good looks in my snow jacket!
Woof, Woof, and a big Ruff!, Can you believe how cold it has gotten? It was a Three Dog Night last night .... not the popular 60's band, the phrase means that it is so cold that you will take three dogs to bed with you to stay warm. No matter how cold, I still have good news for you. Let's talk about staying warm. Here is a few suggestions that I gave to our UPS driver, who has an enormous amount of fur, (hair) but it must not keep him warm, as he is always shivering. Or the UPS driver could be shivering due to how dashing I look in my snow jacket.
Dogeriffic Tips
1. Tea! Tea! My kingdom for Tea! Drinking Herbal teas, Black teas, and Green teas can warm you up quickly. To stay warm try drinking hot Ginger Tea, as it is known to have warming properties.
2. Sprinkle a small amount of Cayenne Pepper between your shoes and socks.
3. Coffee and Hot Chocolate Drinkers add a small amount of Cinnamon to your beverage to benefit circulation.
4. Eat a roast beef sandwich with plenty of Horseradish spread on the bread. Hold the bread and horseradish on my sandwich, as D.O.G. and horseradish don't mix.
5. Don't drink cold beverages, as we all know what frozen drinks do to our brains..... brain freeze!
6. Cover that head! Wear a hat, a cap or even a beret; especially if you are bald. My hat has holes at the top to let my ears flop out.
7. Eat Hot Hardy Soups. Beef and Vegetable, Chicken Noodle, and Split Pea. On special haircut days, when I am utterly on my best behavior, I get bone broth soup. Full of nutrients, keeps me warm, and is rich in collagen for my joints.
8. Eat squashes such as acorn, and butternut squash, though my favorite is spaghetti squash. Add a bit of black pepper, cayenne and turmeric to your favorite squash. Did you know black pepper is used to preserve food because of its antibacterial properties?
9. Drink cider with mulling spices, the aroma is spectacular. Though I have to admit, my favorite scent is roast beef with green beans, now that is a combination I never turn down.
10. Don't wear shorts like our UPS driver does, his fur (hair) maybe thick, curly, and black but doesn't keep him warm.
11. Layer Up! A layer of clothes will keep you toasty warm. I usually wear just one vest, but my sister wears a T-shirt and a vest, and once I even saw her in a snowsuit. I had to look twice to make sure it was her, as the snowsuit was so puffy, I thought I had a new sister.
12. Sheep stay warm, so can you. You never hear them saying BRRRR, they say AH AH AH. Wear wool socks. If allergic to wool, use thermal socks. Also wear tights, then socks over the tights, again layer up!
13. Don't drink alcohol. Alcohol will drop the body temperature. Don't let my four legged friends drink antifreeze, when they find the water bowl frozen over. The antifreeze will kill them. Please be careful, as I so love my friends. On cold days give them a safe, warm place to stay.
14. Eat Garlic. Now here is an exception. This would be... no for me, unless I get my teeth brushed afterwards, as D.O.G, (Director Of Good-news) can't have bad breath, it would be the height of poor taste.
15. Last and my favorite snuggle up to someone who is already warm. My favorite place is between Mom and the couch arm, with the fur blanket over me. My nose protrudes just enough to smell the acorn squash treat.
Attention all my four legged friends! Send me pictures of how you stay warm and we will post them to this blog. Nice and warm inside, with fresh water. Heated cat beds, with catnip toys piled in the corner. Or what I would really love to see if my friends dressed in their best outfits. Have a look at these good lookin' friends.
That's it for the D.O.G News today, stay warm.
Faithfully Yours
D.O.G.
