It Doesn't Matter What Name Is Used For Culinary Bag...... These Bags Are Useful!
Muslin culinary bags or reusable teabags don’t look like very much, but they sure are handy! They come in an assortment of sizes, so finding the right size for any use is easy. Below are some ideas to get you started.
Sachet: Fill with your favorite herbs. Then place them in you linen closet, clothes drawers, closets or your car.
Dryer bags: Freshen your clothes with the scent of your favorite herbs. Put a couple scoops of herbs into the bag and tie it tightly. Toss it in the dryer with your laundry. You can keep reusing it until the scent is gone. I like to use lavender for my bed linens. It gives me a relaxing boost to help me fall asleep at night.
Cooking: This is a great way to add flavor to soups and sauces without getting pieces of the herbs and spices in the liquid. Just put your herbs and spices in the bag, close it tightly and toss it in. When done, remove the bag. No floating pieces of herbs or straining required. Empty the bag, rinse and launder and it is ready to use again.
Herbal Bath Bags: Use a 4” x 6” or 6” x 8” muslin bag, you need a bag that will hold at least a ½ cup of an herbal mixture. First make up a base. Mix together : ½ cup powdered milk, ½ cup Epsom salts, 1/8 cup baking soda and 2 tablespoons cornstarch. Store this in an airtight container. To use add a ½ cup of the base and a ¼ cup each of your favorite herbs or a ½ cup of one herb. Tightly tie the bag closed, then just hang it on the tap and let the water run thru it as the tub fills. When you’re done running the water just let it float around. After your bath, empty, rinse and launder for the next use. Try lavender, rosemary and chamomile or lavender, rose petals, sage and rosemary.
Shower Scrub: In a muslin culinary bag combine 2 parts coarse cut oatmeal, 2 parts herbs , and 1 part grated soap. Pack the bag as loosely or tightly as you want, but it is best to make sure it fits comfortably in the palm of your hand. Tightly tie the bag closed, wet it before using.
Moth Repellant Bags: Use a small muslin bags. Fill each bag with red cedar shavings. Then make your herb mixture. Herbs that work well at keeping moths away are lavender, spearmint, thyme, rosemary, whole cloves, and cinnamon sticks. Make a mixture of equal parts of each of the herbs with 1 cinnamon stick per bag. Add 4 tablespoons of the herb and the cinnamon stick to each bag. You may have to jiggle the bag a bit to get all the herbs in. Close them tightly and squeeze and massage the bags with your hands to release the herbs essential oils. Place in your closets and drawers. They should last a season or so. To revitalize them, just squeeze them with your hands from time to time to release more of the herbs oils.
Party/Wedding Favor Bags: Simply decorate using rubber stamps, fabric markers or iron on transfers. You can even change out the drawstring with pretty twine, yarn or thin ribbon. Just tie the end of the new drawstring to the old and gently pull it though. It’s that easy!
Make your favorite tea! Use loose leaf teas or create your own special blend of tea with your favorite herbs, flowers, berries and spices.
