Posted by 1st Chinese Herbs on Jul 25th 2017

It's nearly that time of year! As soon as July starts to end and August edges closer, thoughts of the phrase "Back to School" are hard to avoid. While this is a time full of a lot of excitement, and maybe some dragging feet, this is also a time when contact with more folks as at its highest. During the fall plenty of people of all ages find themselves succumbing to the early and unpleasant cold or flu. Like many things, one of the best counters for this first strike is preparation.

What Can Be Done to Avoid the Cold in the First Place?

Most people contract these viruses through contact with other people as they can be passed person to person in a variety of ways. It's not exactly reasonable for many of us to avoid close contact with other people--especially with work or school. One way to help lessen the daily contact impact is regular hand washing. On top of regular hand washing, make sure to avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose. These are easy access points for viruses!

To keep the folks around you healthy, consider covering your mouth and nose for sneezes and coughs as well as keeping up that hand washing!

Maybe I'm Already Feeling Sick!

It's pretty easy to try and avoid those warning signs we know are for a cold. We might say they're allergies or we're just feeling "off" today, but it can help to trust your body and know when to rest. The CDC reports that the average adult has 2-3 colds per year and children have many more than that! It can take days to recover and with a few colds a year that's quite a few missed days! Knowing the nature of the season, it can be good to consider what you can do to support your seasonal health from the start of fall all the way through winter.
