Meet Our Pawsociates! Our New Crew Of Four
Four unique personalities, eight curious eyes, sixteen little paws, and a whole lot of love.
Here at 1st Chinese Herbs, nestled in the beautiful mountains of Republic, Washington, we've been helping customers discover traditional Chinese herbs since 1994.
But there's something you might not know about our family-owned business.
We've recently expanded our team by four — and every new team member has four paws, whiskers, and a tail!
Meet our Pawsociates: Geyser, Tidbits, Sylvester, and Watcher.
All four are adopted, and although they may not be particularly helpful when it comes to packing orders or managing inventory, they've brought something even more valuable into our everyday lives.
Joy, laughter, companionship, and a wonderful sense of calm.
And believe us, when you're running a busy online business, those things are priceless!
We Gave Them a Home, but They Give Us So Much More
When you adopt an animal, you think about all the things you're going to provide: a safe home, nutritious food, a warm bed, toys, and plenty of love.
What you don't always anticipate is how much that animal will give you in return.
Our Pawsociates have brought so much happiness into our lives.
They make us laugh with their silly antics, entertain us with their curiosity, and surprise us with their individual personalities.
But perhaps their greatest gift is the calming presence they bring to our days.
Running 1st Chinese Herbs means there's always something happening. Orders need packing, customers have questions, inventory needs organizing, and there never seem to be enough hours in the day.
Then, right in the middle of a particularly busy afternoon, one of our Pawsociates will wander over.
Maybe it's Geyser quietly sitting nearby, Tidbits investigating something on the floor, or Sylvester stretching out for a nap as though he hasn't a worry in the world. Or you might find all four Pawsociates lounging in their luxury kitty high-rise — a giant cat tree where each has a private perch, a personal heating pad, and absolutely no intention of contributing to the day's workload. Apparently, around here, the employees get heated executive suites while management does all the work!
Before we know it, we're smiling.
There's something wonderfully peaceful about listening to a cat purr, feeling a gentle paw resting on your arm, or watching a contented cat sleep.
They remind us that even on our busiest days, we can take a moment to appreciate the little things.
We may provide their food, shelter, and care, but they give us something money can't buy: unconditional moments of happiness, companionship, and love.
Meet the Pawsociates
Geyser – Director of Peace and Quiet
Specialty: Gentle companionship and keeping everyone calm.
Geyser is our handsome black cat with a sweet, gentle personality.
He's a little timid, but once he trusts you, he has a wonderful way of making you feel special.
He enjoys following us around, checking on what we're doing, and coming when called.
Geyser doesn't need to be the center of attention. He's perfectly happy being nearby, offering his quiet companionship.
If our office had a relaxation department, Geyser would definitely be in charge.
Tidbits – Chief Curiosity Officer
Specialty: Investigating everything and supervising daily activities.
Tidbits is our handsome orange tabby, and he's come such a long way since joining our family.
When he first arrived, he was shy and unsure of his surroundings.
But with time, patience, and plenty of love, he's been discovering that life can be pretty wonderful.
He's becoming more confident, affectionate, and adventurous every day.
Tidbits reminds us that trust isn't something you can rush. Sometimes the most rewarding relationships are the ones that take a little time to develop.
Sylvester – Director of Entertainment and Napping
Specialty: Making us laugh and demonstrating the importance of a good nap.
Every workplace needs someone who keeps things interesting.
At 1st Chinese Herbs, that someone is Sylvester!
Our black-and-white tuxedo boy is full of personality, energy, and silly behavior.
One minute he's ready to play, and the next he's sound asleep, happily snoring while everyone else is busy.
He also has a very affectionate side. He'll come over, settle beside us, purr, make biscuits, and then wander off when he's decided his visit is complete.
Sylvester definitely believes in maintaining a healthy work-life balance — although we're pretty sure his balance leans heavily toward naps!
Watcher – Our Newest Pawsociate
Specialty: Getting acquainted with the team and discovering her new surroundings.
Watcher is the newest member of our Pawsociate team, but her story began long before she joined us. She was one of fifteen cats who were abandoned and left needing loving homes. Our other two Pawsociates, Tidbits and Sylvester, were part of that same group! Now, three of those fifteen cats have been reunited under our roof, enjoying warm beds, plenty of love, and their very own heated perches. From an uncertain beginning to a life of comfort and companionship, we'd say these three have landed themselves some pretty wonderful jobs — complete with room, board, and absolutely no work required!
For a while, we wondered whether three cats were enough.
After all, three cats already provide plenty of entertainment, companionship, and occasional mischief.
But we kept thinking about Watcher.
And eventually, we decided there was room in our hearts and our home for one more.
We're excited to welcome her into the family and look forward to discovering her unique personality.
We're certain she'll find her own special place among the Pawsociates.
Why Cats? Why Not Dogs?
We're sure some people might wonder, "Why cats instead of dogs?"
And it's a perfectly reasonable question.
We have absolutely nothing against dogs or any other kind of pet. Dogs are wonderful companions, and we know how much love and happiness they bring to their families.
For our particular lifestyle and the daily demands of running an online business, cats simply happen to be a wonderful fit.
Here's why we enjoy having them around.
1. They're Wonderful at Entertaining Themselves
Cats are naturally curious and playful.
Whether they're exploring a cardboard box, batting around a toy, watching birds through a window, or playing with one another, they can find entertainment in the simplest things.
Of course, they still need attention, affection, and daily interaction, but they also enjoy their independent moments.
2. They Bring a Sense of Calm to Busy Days
There's something soothing about a happy cat curled up nearby.
When the phones are ringing, orders are piling up, and the to-do list seems endless, a purring cat can make the day feel a little less hectic.
They don't solve our problems, but they certainly help us remember to slow down and smile.
3. They Offer Companionship While Respecting Our Routine
Cats often have a wonderful way of simply being present.
Some want to sit beside us. Others follow us from room to room. And sometimes they're perfectly content to watch everything from a comfortable perch.
We enjoy having their company without needing to interrupt every task we're working on.
4. Every Cat Has a Completely Different Personality
This might be one of our favorite things about having four cats.
Geyser is gentle. Tidbits is curious. Sylvester is our comedian. And Watcher is beginning her own chapter with us.
No two are exactly alike, and getting to know their personalities makes every day a little more interesting.
What Our Pawsociates Have Taught Us
One of the most rewarding parts of adopting animals is watching them learn to feel safe, comfortable, and loved.
A shy cat begins to trust.
A nervous cat starts exploring.
A once-timid cat decides to curl up beside you.
These moments may seem small, but they're incredibly meaningful.
Our Pawsociates have reminded us of some important things: patience matters, kindness makes a difference, and happiness often comes from the simplest moments.
They've also taught us that sometimes the best thing you can do during a busy day is stop for a moment, enjoy a little laughter, and appreciate the companionship around you.
A Little More Love Behind the Scenes at 1st Chinese Herbs
Since 1994, 1st Chinese Herbs has been a family-owned business dedicated to providing traditional Chinese herbs and helpful customer service.
We're proud of the business we've built and grateful for the customers who have supported us over the years.
But we also believe there's more to life than work.
Our Pawsociates remind us of that every single day.
They don't answer emails.
They don't pack orders.
They certainly don't help with inventory.
And we're fairly certain Sylvester would sleep through an entire staff meeting!
But they do bring something special to our workplace.
They bring joy when we're tired, laughter when things get stressful, and peaceful companionship when we need it most.
We adopted four cats hoping to give them a wonderful life. What we didn't expect was just how much more wonderful they would make ours.
And that makes them some of the most valuable Pawsociates we could ever have.
We'd Love to Meet Your Pawsociates, Too!

Whatever kind of companion you have, we'd love to hear your story.
